Agricultural engineers reacted to the change in the regulation published in the Official Gazette the previous day, which made all olive groves mine fields and faced the danger of extinction. In the statement made by the Izmir Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, it was noted that such a change is a threat to agricultural areas and agricultural production at a time when our country is experiencing a food crisis.
OLIVE WILL BE SURVIVED TO MINING AND ENERGY COMPANIES
In the statement, which stated that olive groves are intended to be sacrificed to mine and energy capitalists, “it is unacceptable that 500,000 olive-producing families join the army of the unemployed while the consumption of olives and olive oil is increasing rapidly in Turkey. With the regulation change, olive groves are tried to be taken out of agriculture by hiding behind the concept of public benefit. It is not only our olive cultivation that is under threat, but all our agricultural areas. Of course, we are not against meeting the energy needs of our country. However, the change in regulation includes mining activities,” the statement said.

The statement, which stated that there was no public interest in the regulation change, ended with the following call:
“Of course, energy investments should be made in our country. However, while doing this, it should be respectful to nature and importance should be given to sustainability of nature. Otherwise, our children and future generations will have to painfully pay the price of the wrongs done through natural disasters.
