Making an assessment of the sugar crisis experienced by food manufacturers and industrialists and food wholesalers who use sugar in their products, Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce (GTO) President Tuncay Yıldırım called on the authorities to increase the amount of sugar supplied to the market by Turkish Sugar Factories and to sell sugar at affordable prices to the producer. In his assessment, Yıldırım said that Turkish Sugar Factories should support the manufacturer by selling products at affordable prices, and said, “During our consultations with our food wholesaler and industrialist members, we received feedback that the supply of sugar to the market was not sufficient and the prices were excessively high. The increase in sugar prices in recent years has prevented businesses from making new pricing, especially in productions based on commitments, causing businesses to make losses. We expect the Turkish Sugar Factories to support the producer and increase the supply of sugar to the market by selling products at affordable prices."
“PRODUCT SUPPLY ON THE MARKET SHOULD BE INCREASED”
Stating that the high increase in sugar prices in recent years has prevented businesses from making new pricing, Yıldırım said:
“Especially, productions based on commitment cause losses for businesses. If this situation has to be reflected in the product prices, both sales will decrease and it will have a negative impact on the inflation rate. We expect the authorities to support the producer and increase the supply of sugar to the market by selling products at affordable prices.”
