The security forces denied the President of the PLC and a number of MPs from entering into the council and holding a press conference to protest against Abbas’ arbitrary practices against the elected body.
Earlier this week, Abbas announced that he, via the Constitutional Court he has already formed to legitimize his decisions, decided to dissolve the elected council in spite of the illegality of that body.
In a statement, Al-Hayia said that the Palestinians could get over the current situation by forming a national unity government, holding the general elections, and arranging the Leading Framework of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
Al-Hayia stressed that the Abbas-formed Constitutional Court is neither legal nor legitimate. Accordingly, Hamas does not recognize any of its decisions.
“The legislative council will continue performing its duties”, al-Hayia concluded.
