Felicity (Saadet) Party Konya Deputy and Head of Youth Branches Abdulkadir Karaduman asked the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk about the increasing incidents of suicide, especially among the youth.
Karaduman asked whether the Ministry conducted a study on the suicide cases in question, "We observe that the cases of suicide in young people are increasing day by day, this is alarming," he said.
SUICIDE RATES INCREASED AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE
Stating that there was a significant increase in suicide and questionable death incidents, Karaduman said that reasons such as violence, harassment, financial difficulties, increasing unemployment, cost of living, losing hope of the future lead to suicide. We observe that the incidence of suicide, and especially among young people of the same age group, is increasing day by day, which is worrisome. There were 3 suicide incidents in Bingöl, and 4 suicides in Manisa. These are just two examples of those reflected in the press. It can be assumed that these events were of alarming proportions, although they were not reported in the press.
"IS THERE ANY WORK OF THE MINISTRY?"
In the parliamentary question, Karaduman directed 5 questions to the Minister of Family and Labor, Selçuk.
"How many suicide attempts have occurred since you took office on July 9, 2018? What is the number of those who committed suicide, and the distribution over the years, because of unemployment, financial difficulties, and debts? What is the number of people who are poor in women who have ended their lives and its ratio to suicide cases in general? Does your Ministry have a research and solution policy for the increasing number of suicides and especially female suicides? Do you have any plans to increase employment, especially in rural areas to reduce unemployment and related suicides?"
