There was no clear decision taken at the end of the Biden-Erdogan summit in Rome. As far as we understand from the statement made, the only decision that was taken during the meeting of the two leaders is: "Creating a joint mechanism." From this statement, despite all the time that has passed between the USA and Turkey, despite the joint action, a strong relationship could not be established. So, how will the joint mechanism to be created ensure this? In other words, if the two presidents cannot establish a strong relationship, will the mechanism to be created provide this? That is, will commissions be more effective than presidents? It seems that they preferred to refer the problems to the commission in order to gain time with the approach that a common mechanism is needed to establish strong relations. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that this approach belongs to the US side. Because the party that suffers from the problems is Turkey.
At this point, it is useful to remind one thing. In order to solve some problems between political parties, both in international relations and in parliaments, either a joint commission is established or the existing issue is referred to the relevant commission. Such an application may be to reject from the beginning and not offend the addressee, or it may be a decision to gain more time than to solve the problem. My point is not to emphasize the fact that in the one hour and 10 minute meeting between the two leaders, no progress has been made in even one of the problems that have been going on for years. However, the two leaders are meeting, they should have had a proposal to present if they were prepared for the problems before they came together and if the problems were really wanted to be solved. There were serious expectations, especially from Biden. At the very least, he should have announced that he would stop supporting terrorist organizations. That was the expectation. The fact that the problems were referred to the commission shows that the USA is especially in favor of continuing the problems. It seems that the USA wants to pressurize our country and force some concessions by leaving the problems unresolved.
You don't need to be a foreign policy expert to know about Turkey's problems with the United States. It is not known that it is the USA that has haunted our country by the PKK, especially for more than 40 years. In the following years, when Syria was drawn into an environment of conflict by the USA and its coalition partners, the YPG terrorist organization was launched as the Syrian extension of the PKK. While it is clear why the USA and its coalition partners use terrorist organizations as a tool for the realization of the Greater Israel Project, which the USA has declared as the Greater Middle East Project, it is not unknown that Turkey is seriously disturbed by this. While Biden did not need to explain that they would at least cut off aid to PKK/YPG terrorist organizations from now on, and that they would not act together with them, while it is clear that the establishment of a joint mechanism does not mean anything more than procrastinating, it could not go beyond making it seem as if they were approaching Turkey's wishes positively. In addition, the delivery of the planes we paid for to Turkey is another serious problem between the two countries. There is no explanation given about this. The US side still maintains that Turkey is a NATO member and that the purchase of the Russian missile defense system is not correct. All this shows that it is not true that the USA is a friend, let alone a strategic friend and ally. In short, the USA wants Turkey to surrender. As such, it is not possible to establish relations on the basis of friendship. Forgetting this fact will continue to have negative consequences for us.
