When we look at the practices and social activities in our country, the first impression is that there is no trace of the epidemic. This is the image. The statement "Pandemic is not slowing down" made by the World Health Organization (WHO) makes people nervous, especially when we look at the fact that those who had to postpone their weddings for almost two years ran to the wedding halls with the lifting of the bans. Of course, when the World Health Organization is making a statement, it does not make it out of the air, and it should not. In addition, our Ministry of Health evaluates the statements of the World Health Organization as necessary. The latest statements made by the organization, “Pandemic is not slowing down” should have some reflections on practice. If life continues as if nothing has happened despite this explanation, it means that the explanation of the World Health Organization is not credible. As a matter of fact, according to what the relevant and authorities know, we are getting rid of the epidemic that has turned our lives upside down for a long time. On the other hand, it is beneficial to share the real situation in the pandemic with the society.
At this point, it is useful to summarize the statement made by the World Health Organization about the pandemic. The statement highlights the following:
Cases are increasing in five of the 6 regions of the World Health Organization (WHO). Mortality rates in Africa rose from 30 percent to 40 percent. The Netherlands brought back restrictions, Spain delayed normalization, deaths broke records in Russia.
Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Expert of the World Health Organization, said in a statement, "The culprit is the slow progression of inoculation, the delta and stretch in mask-distance. The pandemic is not slowing down, rapid normalization is difficult."
It is up to those concerned rather than us to evaluate the content of the statement in question. However, it is a fact that there has been irregularity in the figures announced about the pandemic since the day of normalization.
It is useful to quote the four-day figures to give an idea.
On Wednesday, July 7, the number of cases was 5,160, the number of those who recovered was 4,636 and the number of those who died was 52.
Thursday, July 8, the number of cases is 5.171, the number of recoveries is 5.012, the number of deaths is 48.
Friday, July 9, the number of cases is 5,670, the number of recoveries is 5,126 and the number of deaths is 59.
Saturday, July 10, the number of cases is 5.530, the number of recoveries is 5.217, the number of deaths is 37.
Cases and death numbers show a fluctuating course. I do not know how this situation is evaluated in terms of the ministry, but it seems that the expected numbers were not reached on the days when normalization was announced. In other words, if the measures taken to reduce the impact of the epidemic as a society are not followed carefully, there is a possibility that the numbers will increase at any moment.
While the news that thousands of tourists are coming from Russia for a holiday creates satisfaction, the fact that a record in deaths in Russia due to the epidemic makes one think. There is an understanding that whether tourists come, the economy revives, the rest is not important.
We wish that the pandemic will end as soon as possible, both the health of our people will be freed from the threat and the economic problems will be alleviated. For this reason, we do not encounter the problem of vaccination, which we have experienced for a long time.
