When the problem of street animals started to become dangerous in cities, it was decided to have chips for all pets. The implementation of the decision was also limited to a short time. Animal lovers, who own cats and dogs in their homes, flocked to veterinarians. Meanwhile, provincial and district directorates of agriculture also stepped in, but it was not possible for animals to be chipped. Because there was no chip in the market to meet the need. As such, some of the animal lovers had the chips they could find fitted while those who could not find them faced a fine of more than 3 thousand liras.

As a result, people did not want to impose a penalty while they were already experiencing financial difficulties. For this reason, they persistently rushed to find chips. Meanwhile, some animal lovers released unregistered animals in their homes onto the street. This suddenly made the streets impassable for dogs.

Especially dogs living in groups at certain points have become a nightmare for children. Let me just say that I am not advocating that all animal lovers who have cats and dogs in their homes act in the same way, that is, they abandon their pets on the street when they cannot find chips.

Even if the majority could not get the chips installed, they registered their animals with the provincial and district directorates of agriculture and waited for the chips to arrive, they are waiting. But still not enough chips have been given to the market. This shows that the necessary preparations were not made regarding the decision taken, and that a decision taken on foot was put into practice. Let me point out right away; This is not the first of such decisions, nor is it likely to be the last.

By the way, it wasn't just about pet chipping. Municipalities would build shelters for stray animals, stray animals would gather here, necessary vaccinations would be done, and they would not be left unattended. It is not clear how many municipalities have built shelters for stray animals after the decision was taken, but it seems that there is not enough. Because there is an increase in the number of stray dogs, even in the streets of the neighborhoods we live in.

At this point, news of children who have been attacked by stray dogs or lost their lives have been reflected in the media recently. This inevitably fuels the fear of stray animals in the society. As such, people resort to harsh treatment against animals with the instinct to protect themselves and their children. In short, it seems that an application initiated to purify the streets from animals paved the way for an increase in the number of dogs on the streets.

At this point, it is useful to draw attention to one more point. First of all, it should not be forgotten that animals are also have lives. While our children and adults are protected from attacks, the lives of those animals must also be protected. For this, municipalities need to increase the number of animal shelters, and after animals are vaccinated there, it need to be sterilized so that its numbers do not increase constantly. It is also beneficial to do this work in shelters. Because sterilization operations are carried out for a very high fee for those who have animals at home. Veterinarians do this, of course, but shelters should be the center for any necessary action.

In addition, the high examination, vaccination and sterilization procedures, which mean the punishment of those who keep animals at home, should either be carried out free of charge in shelters or the fees should be reduced to a reasonable level. Unless these measures are taken, it will not be possible to clean the streets from cats and dogs. Let me point out right away that there is a cost to be able to do this; It is necessary to bear this price and create an environment where animals and humans can live without fear of each other. Otherwise, the news of children attacked by dogs in the media will gradually trigger animal hostility in the society.
