Experts explain why the destruction was so high with the earthquake and that so many people lost their lives. In fact, although those who express their opinions differ, the reasons for such a large amount of destruction are generally in the same line. In short, although there are different opinions on the causes of the earthquake, the reasons converge on a common point.

Generally, it is defined as non-compliance with the earthquake regulations, in other words, the specifications, and zoning amnesties that are put into practice from time to time in the construction of buildings.

Failure to show the necessary seriousness in the implementation of the regulations prepared and put into effect, especially to ensure that the buildings are resistant to earthquakes.

In the meantime, the zoning amnesty made the regulations useless. In short, if the regulation is strictly enforced, even if the administrative authorities provide all kinds of control in this regard, zoning amnesties inevitably allow buildings that are not built in accordance with this regulation to live.

As a result, after this great earthquake, one's mind is asked, "Why is the unenforced regulation prepared?" brings the question.

For example, the number of risky buildings in Istanbul has been announced for years. For example, the last earthquake brought this issue to mind, and the statement states that there are 68 thousand risky buildings in Istanbul.

Well, this issue has been on the agenda for more than 20 years, for this reason, it is talked about the conversion of such buildings that are not resistant to earthquakes, but it seems that no serious transformation has been achieved in such buildings for 23-24 years.

In short, after every disaster, as we get hurt, what can be done to reduce the effect of the earthquake is talked about for days, but after a while it is left to be forgotten. Let me point out right away that this situation is not just about earthquakes.

For some reason, we do not take preventive measures without events that deeply shake the society, we list what should be done after disasters and leave them to be forgotten until the disaster is repeated once again.

At this point, I would like to give an example of the explanations made.

Prof. Dr. Oğuz Cem Çelik says, “If the buildings were built properly, let alone 2018, even according to the 1975 regulation, we would not have experienced such a disaster.”

"When this is the case, if one does not want to be implemented, then what is the point of preparing a regulation once and for all?" we can't help but ask.

In our country, as in various fields, many regulations have a name and are left to their own extinction.

This situation is gradually creating a relaxation in society against various regulations. At the end of this relaxation, people suffer great losses. In particular, the suffering that we have been watching on television screens for days deeply saddens not only those who have been exposed to earthquakes, but all of them.

The effort of the society to overcome the sufferings by working hand in hand gives some relief to our hearts, but it does not bring back the lives we have lost. As such, regretting is not a cure-all in the end, and for this, those in the country's administration should take the necessary precautions and show the necessary diligence in practice without experiencing pain.

Otherwise, our life will be spent with the pain we experience. While it is not possible to completely prevent suffering, it should be allowed, as there is said to be a possibility to reduce it.
