After the December inflation figures were announced, the decision to raise the salaries of civil servants and pensioners was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Accordingly, the increase in civil servants was announced as 30,5 percent, and the rate of increase in Social Insurance Institution (SSK) and Social Security Organization for Artisans and The Self-Employed (Bağ-Kur) retirees as 25,48 percent.

In addition to the pandemic and the economic fluctuations, the President of the Confederation of Independent Public Servants Unions (BASK) Bayram Zengin, who pointed out that the increase was insufficient despite the new hikes announced every day, called for an additional hike to be paid, not an increase in the inflation difference.

Reminding that there is a separate price increase for everything used against the economic problems, Zengin pointed out that the purchasing power of the citizen is decreasing day by day and said, "Considering that everything from needle to thread is increased, it is possible to see that even on the first day of the year, before the increase in the salaries of civil servants and retirees is reflected, purchasing power of civil servants and pensioners is halved. This situation means that put civil servants and retirees in the arms of hunger and misery.”

“ADDITIONAL INCREASE OF 50 PERCENT CAN COMPENSATE LOSSES”

Emphasizing that the increases in civil servants and pensions are based only on the inflation rate of the previous year, “Unfortunately, the new year's hike will not affect the increase in monthly salaries, so the 2022 salary increases determined by the inflation rate of 2021 will remain low. Moreover, these rates will not change until July 2022. The way to meet the losses experienced is to increase the salaries and wages of civil servants and retirees by 50 percent after the 22,48 percent inflation increase, which will be the inflation receivables for the second six months of 2021," Zengin added.

“THE AMOUNT OF THE ADDITIONAL RISE OF 2,5 PERCENT SADDENS THE CIVIL SERVANTS”

Reacting to the additional 2,5 percent increase announced by President Erdoğan, Zengin said, “The President's statement of an additional 2,5 percent increase upsets civil servants and retirees. As BASK, the 6th term collective agreement covering the years 2022-2023, we want and expect it to be revised in accordance with the conditions and the demands of the civil servants.”
