When prices increased, new fraud tactics came into play! Due to the recent increase in vehicle prices, the citizen, who has concentrated on vehicle advertisements on social media, is also faced with advance fee fraud with the security and gendarmerie logo. In order to gain the trust of the buyer, fraudsters make cover photos of police and military uniforms as well as police and gendarmerie logos on their social media accounts. In this way, the fraudsters who take advance fee from the citizens are getting lost.
THEY GAIN CONFIDENCE WITH SECURITY AND TSK LOGOS
Vehicle fraudsters also put the hook on social media postings. Introducing themselves as police and Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) personnel, fraudsters lure citizens into traps by selling their cars at low prices. Citizens who sent a deposit for the vehicle, relying on the security and TSK personnel, realize that they have been defrauded when they cannot reach the persons later on.
TAKES ADVANCE FEES AND GETS LOST
Fraudsters pretending to be a car dealer, in order to show that he is reliable, he presents himself as a member of the gendarmerie and police on social media. For this, it either uses photos of real police and TSK members on social media, or uses the logo of the General Directorate of Security (EGM) and the Turkish Armed Forces. In this way, the fraudsters, who gained the trust of the citizens, demand a deposit from the citizens for their vehicles. Citizens, on the other hand, send a deposit without thinking, but cannot reach the so-called vehicle dealer afterwards.
THEY TAKE A DEPOSIT FROM HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE FOR THE ONE SAME CAR
Fraudsters share their advertisements in auto buying and selling groups of metropolitan cities such as Istanbul and Ankara on social media. However, in order to get a deposit from the citizen, fraudster usually states that the vehicle is in a different province and directs the citizen as he-she wishes. The citizen, on the other hand, sends a deposit early in order not to miss the suitable vehicle, and sets out for province where the vehicle is located. However, when citizen arrives, finds neither the vehicle nor the seller. In this way, the fraudsters who take thousands of Turkish Liras deposit from hundreds of people for the same vehicle, change their contact numbers and go after different prey.
