After tupe, bread and oil queues, new discourse, stationery queue! President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his speech at the opening of the 2022-2023 Academic Year, ignited a new discourse by saying, "We used to wait in the stationery lines for 10 days during our student years so that we could buy a book"! Throughout his 20-year rule, President Erdoğan, who constantly cited 30-40 years ago as an example, said that now he used to wait a stationery queue. After Erdogan's speech, it caused comments that "The tupe and bread queues are over, now the stationery queue has started."
ERDOĞAN: “WE WAITED IN STATIONERY LINES FOR 10 DAYS”
Since 2002, when the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government came to power, it has been criticizing the opposition by constantly developing a discourse on the fact that there were tupes, bread and oil queues in the past. Seeing that the tupe, bread and oil queues could no longer be met by the citizens, Erdoğan took the work further and pointed to the stationery queues. Erdogan, at the opening of the 2022-2023 Academic Year, in the speech he said, “We saved our parents from wandering around stationery stores by distributing textbooks free of charge. During our student years, we used to wait in the stationery lines for 10 days so that we could buy a book.”
HE MADE GIVE GROUND!
While Erdogan's comparison of this period with his student years was considered strange, no one could understand the claim of waiting in line for stationery for 10 days. The government, which used to express tupe, bread and oil queues at every opportunity before, has made people give ground by developing a discourse over the stationery queue in the new period.
