Vice President Fuat Oktay, in his budget presentation speech, forgot the amount allocated to interest expenses and said, “We will write new epics of rise” with the 2023 budget, which caused reactions. While the interest expense of the said 2023 budget is 565 billion Turkish Liras (TL), this figure corresponds to 12,7 percent of the budget.
Discussions on the 2023 Central Government Budget Law Proposal started at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Plan and Budget Committee. Cevdet Yılmaz, Chairman of the Planning and Budget Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Deputy of Bingöl, stated that the 2023 budget has the characteristic of being the budget of the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

Explaining that budgets are extremely important for the development of the culture of democracy as well as shaping the general framework of economic and social policies, Yılmaz said, “This year, we will have prepared the budget for the year 2023 and the 100th anniversary of our Republic. In addition, our budget will be an introduction to a second century. I would like to take this opportunity to commemorate with gratitude everyone who has contributed to our budgets, development and democracy throughout the this century. I wish good budgets from now on.”

Later, Vice President Fuat Oktay made the presentation of the 2023 Central Government Budget Law Proposal. Oktay said: “The main mission of our 2023 budget bill is; to create a financial infrastructure that will protect our citizens from global uncertainties and risks, and that will protect our people from all walks of life. With our 2023 budget, we will write new epics of rise by further clinching the integrity of our country, the unity of our nation and the power of our state in the 100th anniversary of our Republic.”
