Ali Babacan resigns from AKP: says he will form new party

Former Economy Minister Ali Babacan, who is preparing a new party, resigned from the AKP he founded.

Babacan, who submitted his resignation petition to the AKP headquarters, stated the following in his written statement:
 
In August 2001, I was a founding member of the Justice and Development Party, where I served as a member of MKYK for 14 years. In recent years, there have been profound differences between the practices in many fields and the principles, values ​​and ideas I believe. I experienced a separation of mind and heart. Considering these facts, it is unfortunately not possible for me to continue my founding membership of the Justice and Development Party.
 
Former Economy Minister Ali Babacan, who is preparing a new party, resigned from the AKP he founded. Babacan, who submitted his resignation petition to the AKP headquarters, said in a written statement on the issue: After the 3 November 2002 elections, I became a member of the Council of Ministers for 13 years. During my tenure, I defended the founding principles and values ​​of the party both in our country and in the world. In recent years, there have been profound differences between the practices in many fields and the principles, values ​​and ideas I believe. I experienced a separation of mind and heart. Our consultations with a wide range of sectors confirm this. Turkey's present and future has become inevitable to launch a new study. I and many of my friends feel great and historical responsibility for such a work.
 
Presented his resignation to the party headquarters
 
Babacan stated the following in his statement: "I believe that the solution of the problems we face will only be possible with a strong and broad representation of staff. Considering these facts, it is unfortunately not possible for me to continue my founding membership of the Justice and Development Party. As of today, I have delivered my petition to the party headquarters. We aim to raise the reputation of our country, to improve the welfare and happiness of our people, Turkey is to bring a beautiful future it deserves. Human rights, freedoms, advanced democracy and the rule of law are our indispensable principles."
