In the panel, while the expectations of retirees from the public administration, various problems and solutions were discussed, a call was made to make arrangements to compensate for the loss of income and the decrease in the standard of living with retirement. Stating that obligations continue despite the end of working life with retirement, Ali Yalçın, Chairman of Memur-Sen Confederation, underlined that retirees continue to produce and work, and said, “Retirement is not leaving the foundation of the business, leaving the work force. The end of everything is also the beginning of something else. Retirement is not the end, it is a new beginning.”
LIFE STANDARD OF RETIRED PEOPLE SHOULD BE IMPROVED
Pointing out that the economic and social needs continue even though the actual service ends with the retirement, Yalçın stated that the high inflation figures affect the retirees the most and stated that the gap between the active working wages and the pension should be eliminated, and said, “As required being a social state; The financial situation of retirees should be improved and their standard of living should be raised. The salary gap between retirees and employees should be closed, and the lowest pension should not be below the minimum wage. Active aging programs, which require our retirees to participate in social, economic and cultural activities, should be implemented in our country, and retirees should be provided with a healthier retirement period. The freedom of organizing of retirees should be legally guaranteed, our retirees should be able to become members of unions in the service branch or their current membership should be able to continue after retirement and they should be allowed to take part in the collective bargaining table.”
WE STRIVE TO BRING RETIRED PEOPLE IN UNION THE RIGHTS
Retired Memur-Sen Union President Ali Küçükkösen, who made the opening speech in the program, stated that the lack of legislation regarding the right of retirees to form a union and to be a member of a union will be corrected with their struggles, and said, “Within law no 4688, We will gain the right of retirees to form unions, and Retired Memur-Sen Union will enter a new phase in its struggle as a strong union. Our offer is to take place within the law numbered 4688, our claim is that retirees have this right in Turkey, just as they do in other developed countries of the world. We believe that this right will be won through Retired Memur-Sen Union.”
