The fact that the script on the base of a sports shoe model produced by Nike is similar to the word "Allah" in Arabic has fuelled anger among Muslims.
The American manufacturer was asked to recall offensive shoe with Allah’s name from worldwide market in a campaign launched on Change.org web site.
"Nike has produced the Nike Air Max 270 shoe with the script logo on the sole resembling the word Allah in Arabic, which will surely be trampled, kicked and become soiled with mud or even filth," the campaign launched said on the site.
The post on the website said that it is outrageous and appalling of Nike to allow the name of God on a shoe and this is disrespectful and extremely offensive to Muslims and insulting to Islam while Islam teaches compassion, kindness, and fairness towards all.
After recalling trainers in 1997, which had a similar logo depicting the word Allah, Nike claimed to have tightened scrutiny on logo design. "So why has a similar design been approved?" the user asked.
Urging Nike to recall this blasphemous and offensive shoe and all products with the design logo resembling the word Allah from worldwide sales immediately, the post also requests stricter scrutiny of products before they enter the market.
Calling on Muslims; "I urge all Muslims and everyone who respects the freedom of religion or belief to sign this petition," the petition said.
In their post on the website, users from worldwide pledged not to buy Nike shoe as long as the company remains silent against this offensive design.
