Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (AMM) Mayor Mansur Yavaş announced the balance sheet of the flood disaster that occurred after the heavy rain that was effective in the capital. Yavaş shared the ‘Ankara Disaster Information Report’ with the public and explained in detail the reasons for the damage that occurred in the city and the projects to be done.
DAMAGE AND HEAVY DAMAGE OCCURRED IN 455 NEIGHBORHOOD
Noting that the annual average amount of precipitation in the capital is 392 kilograms, but the amount of precipitation falling in 7 days reached 191,5 kilograms, Yavaş added, “While the rains continued for a long time, the meteorological weather event 'Purple Polygon', which created the risk of flooding and flood took place. Damage and severe damage occurred in 455 neighborhoods. There were 63 roofs flying and 5 retaining wall collapses reported throughout the city. Our teams intervened in 19,370 incidents in 5 days. We carried out work in the field with 1,650 vehicles and 5,612 personnel.”
“SHOWED THE WRONGNESS OF BUILDING BRIDGE INTERCHANGE IN 70-80 DAYS”
Yavaş said, “In almost all of the 102 regions where we have invested in infrastructure, we had no problems. No flooding occurred in any of the newly constructed underpasses. This situation also showed us how wrong it is to make a bridge crossing in 70-80 days like racing a horse. Instead of the bridges that fishermen search for, we carried out bridge works that set an example with its infrastructure and artistic structures as in civilized societies.”
“TOGETHER WE WILL DRESS OUR WOUNDS”
Yavaş conveyed his condolences to the families of the 4 citizens who lost their lives in the flood disaster, and conveyed his condolences, “We will not make excuses, we will find solutions. We will continue to take care of all our fellow countrymen one by one and heal our wounds together in order to eliminate the grievances. We have to take new measures for the future, apart from the immediate measures against climate change and wrong city practices,” he added.
