The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ankara on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for 47 personnel working at two Turkish ministries as part of its ongoing probe into the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).
The government blames FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen for the July 15 coup attempt that martyred 250 people and left around 2,200 others wounded.
Warrants were out for 30 staffers of the Ministry of Education and 17 others at the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications, according to a source at the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, who did not wish to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.
Police said so far 11 suspects had been detained from seven provinces.
Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
In the wake of the putsch attempt, tens of thousands of FETO suspects have been arrested, including many in the armed forces, police, the judicial system, and education and business sectors.
