Deputy Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mevlana Atm Masum said, “Bangladeshi people witness new horrors every day. People's demands cannot be ignored with any pressure, baseless and fabricated trials, arrests and executions.”
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wacid is increasing the dose of violence every day to neutralize her opponents. Another target of the government, which has the leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami Party executed and the members of the party arrested, is the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), the country's main opposition party. The rallies and meetings of the Bangladesh National Party, which has been a coalition partner with the Jamaat-e-Islami Party in the past and is known for its moderate approach to Jamaat-e-Islami, are being raided by the police. The political rally that took place in front of the BNP office in the Paltan district of the capital Dhaka on December 7, 2022 turned into a massacre. As a result of the Bangladesh police attack on BNP members, 2 people lost their lives, 60 party members was also injured. While dozens of executives of the BNP, which was preparing for a big rally on Saturday, were detained, there are concerns that violence will increase further in the country.
PEOPLE'S DEMANDS CANNOT BE SUPPRESSED BY VIOLENCE
Stating that the government's oppressive policies fueled violence, Mevlana Atm Masum said, “Hasina government, which seized power by force, is isolated from the people due to corruption, looting, mismanagement and tyranny. Bangladeshis witness new horrors every day. Their opponents think they can be stopped by violence and by raiding their meetings. We would like to warn the government that the people of the country are united today against 14 years of oppressive rule. The broad masses of the country want a provisional government to be established. The demands of the people cannot be ignored with any pressure, false and fabricated trials, arrests and executions. We call for ending these activities as soon as possible, securing the right of political parties to hold meetings, and ensuring that the immediate release of all arrested political party leaders and the establishment of an election environment under an independent government.”
BANGLADESH JAMAAT-E ISLAMI CONDEMNS THE VIOLENCE
Deputy Secretary General of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mevlana Atm Masum, issued a statement condemning the attack on BNP leaders and the killing of 2 people by police bullets on December 7. In his statement, Masum said, “The police created anarchy by attacking the political activists gathered in front of the BNP office with tear gas and weapons. From noon onwards, a frightening situation took place in the entire Paltan region due to police violence. Two BNP leaders were killed by police fire. We condemn and protest these murders. May Almighty God have mercy on those who lost their lives, I express my condolences to their families, relatives and colleagues. I call for very strict legal action against those involved in this murder.”
