Thinker, writer and translator Yaşar Kaplan passed away in Germany at the age of 71.
Kaplan, who had been treated for pancreatic cancer for a while, died in the hospital in the morning.
After Kaplan's death, his friends and fans expressed their condolences on social media.
Yaşar Kaplan's biography
Born in Niğde in 1952, Kaplan completed his primary education in his village and his secondary education in Kayseri Imam Hatip High School.
He then received higher education in English Language and Literature and the History of American Language and Literature.
Kaplan, who served as the editor-in-chief of the Directorate of Religious Affairs, Iller Bank, Turkish Agricultural Equipment Institution, Mila News Agency, and as a translator at the State Planning Organization, was put on trial for four different works.
He was imprisoned for nearly 3 years because of his essay book called ‘Demokrasi Risalesi’.
He also wrote a column for the Milli Gazete for a while.
After getting out of prison, Kaplan worked as a columnist for Akit newspaper until he went to Germany in 2001.
Yaşar Kaplan, one of the famous names in literature in the 1980s, published his short stories, essays and criticisms under his own name and pen-names, in Edebiyat, Aylık Dergi and Meydan magazines, of which he was the founder.
In the Aylık Dergi he directed, he attracted attention with his approaches to current issues and his essays and criticisms as well as his storytelling.
