In the Taşköprü Plateau of Gümüşhane, efforts were made to restore Bottomless Lake (Dipsiz), which was sacrificed to the ignorance of the authorities. After the search for the treasure, the lake returned to the pile of stones and sand was first cleaned and clay was poured into the bottom of the lake to hold water. It is considered impossible to return to the old days of Dipsiz Lake, where water was reinforced by pipes from the nearby creek to restore its former state.
12 THOUSAND YEARS LAKE DESTROYED
President of the Association for the Protection of Geological Heritage Dr. Nizamettin Kazancı said, "Dipsiz Lake is one of the many pits in the vicinity. When glaciers are pulled around the glacier, pits form. These pits are difficult to retain water. There are glacial stones all over the pit. If there are coarse grained stones at the bottom, it does not hold water. To be a lake, the stones must be like pebbles. It kept water in the Bottomless Lake, so this lake was important. It is impossibility to give license to treasure search here."
"OLD LAKE NEVER COMES AGAIN"
Kazancı said, "If any earth scientist called, this would not be the case. They would learn that this is a natural area and cannot be treasured. The lake has been emptied, the water is now being refilled. In this way, you can make as many lakes to the plateau. But Bottomless Lake will not be the same as before, it will never replace the old lake".
Another natural beauty disappeared
Former turning the impossible into the bottomless described as the lake, take a place in history as the loss of natural beauty in Turkey.

President of the Association for the Protection of Geological Heritage Dr. Nizamettin Kazancı spoke to our newspaper and underlined that the lake would not be restored. Kazancı said, "To give a license to treasure search here is inadequate. If they called any earth scientist, they would learn that this is a natural area and cannot be treasured. The natural formation has been destroyed, an artificial formation cannot replace it."
We are losing more and more of our beauties of nature. Dried to search for treasure, and then filled with stones and sand to return to the original state of Dipsiz Lake works will be fruitless. 12 thousand years of work in the lake was first emptied stones and sand, clay was poured to the bottom of the lake. Water from the nearby stream is reinforced by the pipes of the lake, turned to the pool. “WE SHOULD HAVE KNOWLEDGE WHEN APPROACHING TO NATURE”
Underlining the need to have knowledge in the nature-oriented studies, Kazancı said, "This incident has been a lesson on approaching nature on our own and not knowing it. We need to have knowledge as we approach nature. It all starts in nature. If we go this way, our children will see fruit and vegetables on TV tomorrow. First of all, it is necessary to define the concept of geological heritage and to take inventory of our geological sites."
