While assignment problems are frequently on the agenda in many fields, 50/D status research assistants, which came to the agenda with the temporary arrangement of 1+1 and their number reached 40 thousand, called for the transition from contracted status to staff in order not to be unemployed. Almost all of the research assistants working in the 50/D status stated that the arrangement was temporary, and in October, they requested that the contracted personnel be granted rights in the transition to the staff.

PRIMARY STAFF LEADS TO TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT IN THE ACADEMY

Ömer Orbay Çetin, the Founder of Research Assistants Solidarity Platform, who drew attention to the increase in the number of studies on the promise of staff brought to the agenda by the government, stated that the 50/D status should not be forgotten in these studies, and said, “The situation of the research assistants in the 50/D status, who are contracted public employees, is uncertain. Although a 1+1 year extension decision has been made, this solution can only be temporary and will not do anything other than delay the problem. When all the data are examined, it is clearly seen that the 33/A status, which is the main employment type, has been replaced by the 50/D status, which is the temporary employment type.”

THE ONLY EXPECTATION IS TO GET TO 33/A STATUS

Calling for the research assistants not to be forgotten within the scope of the staff that will come to all fields, Çetin stated that the uncertainty regarding the future of the 50/D status employees should be eliminated, “The staff rights that will be given to the people working under contract in all fields, including the academy, are not given to the research assistants with the 50/D status. Otherwise, it will make the problem much bigger by clinching double standards, discrimination and injustice. 50/D Research Assistants experiencing the problem, see themselves as lonely, unpredictable and forgotten people in public. Research Assistants with 50/D status, whose only expectation is to be involved in this process and to be staffed by being transferred to 33/A status, do not want to be forgotten in October so that their problems can be resolved,” he added.
