The 50\d problem in the academy, which the Milli Gazete insistently brought to the agenda, is moving towards a solution.

"Eğitim-Bir-Sen" educators union Secretary General Latif Selvi, in a meeting he attended, called the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and stated that the problem should be resolved.

"The uncertainty caused by the 50/d staff without job security should be eliminated, and the research assistant staff should be provided with job security," Selvi said.

“AN EMPLOYMENT WITHOUT JOB SECURITY CANNOT BE ACCEPTED”

Research assistants working in the academy with the status of 50\d were faced with unemployment after completing their doctorate due to a clause in effect. Recently, in the statement made by YÖK President Erol Özvar regarding the problem, it was announced that periodic assignments related to uncertainty could be made. While calling for the uncertainty to be resolved as soon as possible, Latif Selvi, General Secretary of Eğitim-Bir-Sen, pointed out that the employment of academics without job security is unacceptable.

“ENVIRONMENTS SHOULD BE CREATED FOR EFFICIENT WORK OF ACADEMICIANS”

Selvi said that it is essential to reduce the number of students per academician, the number of weekly lectures and the number of administrative duties so that research activities can be carried out more comfortably and efficiently, and that environments that will enable academicians to conduct research and turn their results into quality publications should be created.

“UNCERTAINTY SHOULD BE REMOVED, STAFF MUST HAVE JOB SECURITY”

Selvi stated that the problems of research assistants working in 50/D status should be solved immediately.

"It is unacceptable for a 30-35-year-old scientist to be sentenced to unemployment on the day he finishes his doctorate, when Turkey invests and is at its most productive. While we are fighting for the termination of contracted employment and the recruitment of contract workers, it is not possible for us to accept the employment of research assistants in two different statuses without job security. The uncertainty caused by the 50/d staff without job security should be eliminated, and the research assistant staff should be provided with job security," Selvi added.
