Çelikus noted that the remedy for the hikes is the introduction of the Retail Law.
Mahmut Çelikus, Chairman of the Association of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (ESDER), made a written statement regarding the Retail Law. Çelikus, in his written statement, stated that the backbone of the economy, artisans are stuck between the pressure of hypermarkets and chain markets. Stating that the lack of the Retail Law has negatively affected the businesses of tradesmen and manufacturers and caused an unstable economic environment in the domestic market, Çelikus said, “Especially chain markets are manipulating the market as they wish. Price tags are now changing daily. Despite the Value Added Tax (KDV) reduction, there is no discount on the shelves, and even a ruthless increase is being made.”
“THE MONOPOLY ON THE MARKETS SHOULD BE AVOIDED WITH RETAIL LAW”
Çelikus underlined that the step to be taken to prevent price hikes in basic needs products is the enactment of the Retail Law, and added: “With the Retail Law, the markets are removed from the monopoly of these chain markets, and with the Market Law, the producers are allowed to breathe. Restricting the import of agricultural products in order to increase agricultural production, subsidizing the basic inputs of the farmer such as seeds, fertilizers and diesel, supporting animal husbandry with the right incentives, supporting milk and meat livestock instead of animal imports. It is necessary to increase the purchasing power of the citizens and to bring inflation to reasonable levels as soon as possible in order to support our tradesmen, who are the backbone of our commercial life, with interest-free loans and incentives, to subsidize the main cost elements, and most importantly, to revive the markets.”
