Lütfi Elvan, Minister of Treasury and Finance, "When we look at the past, fuel prices were at the level of 1 Euro in Europe and 1 Euro in Turkey. In 2011-2012, there were periods when the liter price of gasoline was $2.5, but currently, fuel prices are around 0.7-0.8 Euros," he said during the meetings on the budget of the Ministry at the Plan and Budget Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey the previous evening.

“I BELIEVE THAT TOGETHER WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS PROCESS”

Expressing that the world faced the biggest shock after the 1929 depression, Elvan said, "We faced facts that we were not even included in our shock scenarios. Not only Turkey, but all countries of the world, all countries are going through a difficult process. I sincerely believe that together we will get through this process well."

THE FUNDAMENTAL MISSION OF THE CENTRAL BANK IS PRICE STABILITY

While responding to the evaluations on the current account deficit, Elvan said, "First of all, let me state that the main task of the Central Bank is to ensure price stability. We have a structural problem in the current account deficit. The task of reducing the structural current account deficit is the duty of the government, the task of reducing the structural current account deficit belongs to the government. Therefore, the tools to be applied in monetary policy are clear. The Central Bank implements these tools. I wanted to clarify this. Here is our basic approach; In this country, an infrastructure and environment that can bring down the import of intermediate and investment goods and bring high technology from abroad should be established."

While evaluating the fuel prices and the echelle mobile system, Elvan noted the following:

"When we look at the past, fuel prices were at the level of 1 euro in Europe and 1 euro in Turkey. In 2011-2012, there were periods when the liter price of gasoline was $2.5, but currently, fuel prices are around 0.7-0.8 euros. Until today, we should not have received the tax that we would have collected over the 64 billion liras esel mobile system. Due to the lack of space in the Echelle Mobil system, because the system was supporting the part of the gasoline up to 7.75 Lira, now the Echelle Mobil is completely out of service, because the fuel prices have increased too much. We try not to reflect it on our citizens as much as possible."
