Trampa, who was elected as mufti after the Friday prayer at 83 mosques in Xanthi on September 9, was elected as mufti. The legal basis of the institution of the mufti was the Athens Treaty of 1913, the Law no. 2345 enacted in 1920 and the Treaty of Lausanne, but he said Greece violated these fundamental rights.

Stating that the rights of the Turkish minority have been violated by the new laws and decrees, Trampa said, “Our people clearly showed their reaction against the mufti, who was appointed without meeting Western Thrace Turkish Minority and with our advisory board, which is our highest institution. Since 1990, our people began to elect their own mufti, as specified in treaties and laws. The process started with the unlawful dismissal of our muftis.”

“THE ATTITUDE OF THE GREEK MEDIA IS IMMORAL”

Trampa noted that with the announcement of the mufti candidacy, the Greek media took an immoral and unlawful attitude towards them. He stated that what has been done is open discrimination and an attitude that harms human dignity. Stating that the Greek press also slandered him and he condemned these approaches that contradicted the principles of journalism, Trampa said, "Everyone does what suits them."

Mufti Trampa stated that the discriminatory statements of the Greek media, which are black propaganda, did not find any response in the eyes of the people of Western Thrace and the common-sense Greeks, but that they further angered the extremist groups who read these newspapers.

Underlining that the muftis appointed by the Greek government do not have a counterpart among the Turks of Western Thrace, Trampa said, “We have various ceremonies such as funerals, read the whole of the Qur’an and Islamic memorial service. It is impossible for appointed muftis to wear their robes and conduct those ceremonies. They are met with a huge backlash.”

Trampa noted that even though they can pray freely in Greece, their freedom of religion is severely violated, adding, "The approach that if you can pray, then you have freedom, is false. Because the Greek government has issued decrees with the force of law to reduce your institution to the lowest level, to turn it into a government office. Greece's policies towards the religion of minorities are a great example of lawlessness. There is no more than that," he added.

THE SETTLEMENT OF CHRISTIANS IS TARGETED

Stating that the aim of the Greek authorities is to place Christians in minority foundations and religious institutions, Trampa said, “For example, Christians lead the foundation committee in Rhodes. The delegations here include Christians in secretarial or different positions. The latest law states that Christians or people of different religions can also be employed in mufti offices. Is something like this possible?”
