According to the report, which was released based on scientific estimates out of 50,000 victims, an estimated 216,000 children were subjected to sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in 70 years. In the report, which announced that two-thirds of 3,000 child abusers were priests, it was stated that 2,900 and 3,200 priests working in the church were sexual abusers. The harassment incidents that emerged in the churches, the most important center of European civilization, once again brought the heretics to light in Europe.
THE NUMBER REACHES 330,000
Families that priests were close to from the church community came to the fore as the environment where sexual abuse was most common. On the other hand, holidays and educational programs organized by the Church emerged as places where sexual harassment took place. Jean-Marc Sauve, who serves as the head of the commission, argues that compensation should be paid to the victims, stating that the figure of 216,000 children reached 330,000 when we add the sexual harassment involving non-religious people who belong to the church.
Monsignor Eric de Moulins-Beaufort, President of the French Bishops' Conference, said that he and the bishops were ashamed of this situation and asked for the victims of sexual abuse to forgive the clergy.
This perverse incident in France is not the first. In 2020, 59 reports of sexual harassment were made in the Belgian Catholic Church. While 2,000 priests are on trial in the ongoing sexual harassment cases in the Vatican, these cases have still not been concluded.
