As inflation rises, hunger and poverty continue to deepen. According to the "Hunger and Poverty Line Survey" announced by Türk-İş Confederation, the hunger limit exceeded 6,000 Turkish Liras (TL) and the poverty line exceeded 19,600 TL. In the last 15 months, food inflation, so to speak, "fire in the kitchen" was 107,76 percent.
Türk-İş Confederation announced the results of the “Hunger and Poverty Line Survey” for May, which is announced every month. The figures announced revealed the pressure in the economy and the difficulty of living of the citizens. According to the results of the research, the hunger limit for a family of four increased to 6,17 TL, the poverty line to 19,602 TL, and the 'cost of living' of a single employee increased to 7,836 TL per month. While the poverty line was based on 20,000 TL, the hunger limit was nearly 2,000 TL above the minimum wage.
FOOD INFLATION INCREASED 108 PERCENT IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS
The unstoppable rise in inflation was also found in the research results. Accordingly, while the increase in the minimum amount of expenditure that a four persons family living in Ankara should make for “food” was 13,04 percent compared to the previous month, the rate of increase as of the last twelve months was 107,76 percent. The five-month change rate was 46,85 percent.
“NEITHER INFLATION IS SLOWING NOR PURCHASING POWER IS RISING”
In a statement made by Türk-İş Confederation, "Price increases, especially in food, cannot be prevented due to the supply effect due to the increase in production and supply costs and the demand effect that has been brought forward to protect the decreasing purchasing power every day. Neither inflation is slowing down, nor purchasing power is increasing. Workers, civil servants, retirees, students, tradesmen cannot breathe,” the statement said.
