The excited wait for the 2023 Turkish General Elections continues. While the election calendar announced by the Supreme Election Board begins on Saturday, March 18, there are concerns about election security in 197,000 ballot boxes to be established across the country.
While the Nation Alliance announced that it will cooperate to ensure the security of the ballot boxes, there are concerns about the election security at the ballot box where the foreigners who obtained citizenship, the citizens staying in the earthquake zones or immigrating will vote.
Türkiye goes to the polls on May 14. Election security concerns continue to be experienced as there are only 40 days left until the elections.
While it has been announced that 197,000 ballot boxes will be set up across Turkey, the Nation Alliance is taking measures to ensure that the elections take place safely.
ALLIANCE OF NATIONS WILL ACT JOIN IN ALL BALLOT BOXES
Within the scope of the calendar prepared by the YSK, there are only 40 days left until the Presidential and 28th Term Parliamentary Elections to be held on 14 May.
While the announced calendar continues to work, election security continues to be a concern in the 197,000 ballot boxes that will be established across the country. In this context, the Nation Alliance Election Security Commission, which was formed by a member from each party in the past months, shared it with the public after completing its work.
The Election Security Commission, which organizes meetings at certain intervals until the elections, will take steps to ensure that the elections are held in a safe atmosphere by holding regular meetings after the candidate lists of candidates to be submitted to the Supreme Election Board (YSK).
The commission will assign backup ballot box observers in all ballot boxes, especially in earthquake zones, and their wet signed minutes will be confirmed and followed up according to data flows.
ELECTION SECURITY CONCERNS IN EARTHQUAKE AREAS
After the earthquakes of February 6, a great destruction occurred in 10 provinces, especially in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquake.
While it is not yet known how much the number of voters fell in earthquake regions with approximately 9 million voters, nearly 3 million earthquake victims had to migrate to different cities.
In the first days of the earthquakes, in which more than 50 thousand of our citizens lost their lives, the claims that the people who were pulled out of the rubble were buried without being registered and that the voter registration of these people was not lost continues to be on the agenda.
The earthquake victims staying in the earthquake areas will be able to vote in the schools where they resided, as before the earthquake, as the electoral rolls are not taken into the tents.
FINGER PAINT USED IN PREVIOUS ELECTIONS
It is going to the 14 May elections, which is of critical importance for Turkey, with concerns about ballot box security. The finger paint application, which was last used in the 2009 local elections, has not been used in any elections since then.
While there were debates in many elections held after these elections, there were events such as the 2017 Referendum, in which 2.5 million votes were accepted unsealed, and the repetition of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality elections in the last local elections.
