With the recent involvement of social media in all areas of our lives, every professional group has entered the ‘phenomenon’ race on social media. The social media phenomenon, which is spreading rapidly among teachers, has come to the fore frequently in recent days. Gazi University, Faculty of Education, Classroom Education Department Lecturer Prof. Dr. Hayati Akyol made statements to the Milli Gazete. Akyol pointed out that the content produced by teachers on social media does not benefit anyone and said, “The phenomenon is a trend that will not benefit our teaching education system. In addition to this, together with the already declining quality of education, this situation is dragging our education system down even more.”

“THE SHARED CONTENTS DEFINITELY DO NOT CONTAINS A PURPOSE”

Expressing that the issue of phenomenal teaching should not be exaggerated, Akyol pointed out that teachers set a bad example for students due to being phenomenal and added, “The phenomenon teaching does not contain an educational movement in it. It does not contain a scientific case however, most importantly, there is no moral message given in the content. It does not have a purpose related to the content. The title of phenomenon is gained with movements that do not make any sense to me and do not contain a cultural message in the posts shared.”

“DECREASE OF EDUCATIONAL QUALITY HAS REVEALED PHENOMENON TEACHER”

Akyol, who reacted to the fact that the posts that emerged with the phenomenon of teaching did not provide content in the field of education, pointed out that the main reason for this issue was the decrease in the quality of education, and said, "There is nothing to gain from teaching a phenomenon in terms of education. The quality of education is getting lower and lower. The decline in the quality of education in the field of education is reflected in the new generations. Especially in the field of basic education, there is an ongoing betrayal for years. Students can come to the university without any effort. In addition, with the decrease in the reputation of the teacher in the school and in the classroom, teachers try to entertain students instead of teaching. The phenomenon that emerged as a result of this situation emerged as a hollow in teaching.”

CONTENT IS EMPTY

Referring to the fact that the concept of phenomenon associated with the concept of famousness used in the past is completely different in terms of content, Akyol pointed out that the content of phenomenon teachers is empty and added, “In the past, we used to call people famous people. These people were people who benefited their environment. These people used to benefit their environment materially, spiritually or scientifically, now the concept of phenomenon is associated with celebrity. The content of the famous concept we used in the past and the current phenomenon concept do not contain any common content in the context of teaching. There is no science or wisdom in the content. It has no purpose.”
