With the decision of the Presidency, the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) base regulation covering some models of new passenger cars has been made recently. In this way, price reductions of up to 50 thousand liras were experienced in some models. Although the prices fell after the SCT regulation, the dealers tended to take measures against the insufficient stocks they had. Some big companies, on the other hand, do not sell their vehicles in stock after the SCT reduction, or sell them to their own sub-companies and include them in the free market.

DEALERS TAKE MORE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST THE PROBLEM OF SUPPLY

In addition to the problems experienced in production and supplies with the pandemic, the problems that started with the chip crisis affecting the automobile world continue.

Osman Şekerci, Vice President of the Disciplinary Board of Otonomi Collective Building Site Management, stated that before the pandemic, the dealers acted to achieve maximum sales but minimum profit in order to reach the sales figures given to them.

"With the start of the problem in vehicle supply with the pandemic, they saw that they are having problems in buying new vehicles instead of the ones they sell. What does this mean? While he sold the vehicle he bought for 240 thousand liras for 245 thousand liras, when he bought it from the factory for 275 thousand liras in the next purchase, there was a loss in their capital. This led the dealers to work a little more cautiously and with stock," he said.

SCT DISCOUNT HAS ARRIVED BUT THE VEHICLE STOCK IS INSUFFICIENT

Noting that the dealers took various measures against the problems that started with the pandemic, Şekerci stated that they stopped some sales with these measures, "The belts stop during the maintenance seasons made during the 3-month holiday periods. At the stage when the bands stopped, stocks were not formed. In the meantime, the SCT reduction of a vehicle sold for 300 thousand liras has decreased to 250 thousand TL, but the mentioned vehicle is not in stock. The future forecast is in production by New Year's," he added.

Şekerci said that the reason why the prices of second-hand vehicles did not decrease is the insufficient stocks in zero kilometer vehicles.

"Even if there is no SCT discount, the demand for 0 cars cannot be met at the moment, and despite the discount for each company's 1.0 motor vehicle with the SCT base discount, these vehicles do not exist in the market, so there is a price reduction for the non-existent goods. This is a danger," he said.

DEALERS SELL THE CAR IN THEIR HANDS TO THEIR OWN SUB-FIRMS

Noting that the reflections of the SCT reduction on the citizens are followed by the companies, Şekerci stated that they draw new road maps according to these reflections.

"Firms, we have waived the profit anthem. But now, after the discount, the demand increased and they said that we do not provide vehicles, this is the first handicap. The second handicaps, on the other hand, were the dealers, who said that they could not benefit from the SCT discount again because they had a car and invoiced their sub-companies as fleet sales and made sales. The cars that were supposed to go to the citizens went to their own sub-companies. The vehicles for sale here were put up for sale in the free market, and thus, second-hand vehicles, which were sold more expensive than 0 kilometers, emerged," he added.
