Russia, which bombarded the region with warplanes in Syria, also nullified the public comments that "its influence in Syria will decrease". Former Chief of the General Staff's Intelligence Department, İsmail Hakkı Pekin, evaluated the developments in our newspaper and said, "Russia says 'I am here' to prevent the United States (US) and Terrorist Organization (PKK) from settling in the gap in the region and to support the Assad forces."
Russia, which has been at war with Ukraine for about three months, continues its attacks in Syria despite the intense war conditions in its region. We talked to İsmail Hakkı Pekin, the former Chief of the General Staff's Intelligence Department, about the war policy of Russia, which frequently bombs Syria with warplanes, both on its own border and in Syria.
PEKİN: “NO AIR FORCE TO DISTURB THE RUSSIANS”
İsmail Hakkı Pekin added, “The issue of Ukraine and Syria is different, but there are not many ground forces in Syria. Air strikes are also necessary because needs to support Assad’s forces. There is no air force in the region to disturb the Russians. If they do not do this, they will leave the gaps in that region to America and Iran. It is reported that Iran has moved to the places evacuated by the Russians. This could be American disinformation.”
PEKİN: "RUSSIA SAYS 'I'M HERE'"
Pekin said: “It is a mistake for Russia to say that it will evacuate Syria and make military referrals to Ukraine because it is in conflict in Ukraine. Russia does not need such a thing. The operations carried out by Russia are to prevent the PKK, which is supported by the USA, from entering the region. There are attacks on us from regions such as Manbij and Tel Rifat, and Turkey may organize a ground operation in response to them. In order to prevent Turkey's operation, Russia can fly planes in the region and show that the region is not empty. As a result, Russia says 'I am here'.”
