Many studies and projects are carried out throughout Turkey within the scope of the ‘Week of the Disabled’, which is celebrated every year between May 10 and 16. A press release regarding the Disability Week, which is traditionally described as ‘Awareness Week’ by disabled non-governmental organizations, came from the Felicity (Saadet) Party. In the press release published by İsrafil Bayrakçı, Head of the Headquarters of the Saadet Party Headquarters Coordination Center for the Disabled, attention was drawn to the problems of the disabled.
“UNFORTUNATELY INCONSISTENT AND MEANINGLESS PRACTICES CONTINUE”
Stating that the problems of the disabled do not decrease, on the contrary, they continue to increase, İsrafil Bayrakçı said, “Unfortunately, the unbalanced, inconsistent and meaningless practices in the implementation of the law numbered 2022, which we have emphasized for a long time and expressed on every occasion, unfortunately continue. Expectations in the employment of disabled people, which are not to increase the quota by 3 percent, not to fill the vacant quotas, not to appoint disabled teacher candidates, not to resolve the problems related to transportation and access, not to resolve the grievances of the disabled using orthotics and prosthesis, not to resolve the problems arising from the frequently amended report regulations, two witnesses are required for the signatures of the visually impaired and this problem cannot be solved with the Notaries Union. These are just a few of the many issues that disabled non-governmental organizations and communities expect to be resolved.”
“12,3 PERCENT OF OUR POPULATION IS DISABLED”
Stating that the disabled says "we expect action, not words", İsrafil Bayrakçı added, ”They want to live humanely, participate in production, and gain the identity of being individuals of the social state. They want to have a say and a decision in both central and local governments. In other words, they want to be not only the choosing one, but also the chosen one. 12,29 percent of our population is disabled. We have approximately 10 million disabled citizens. It means approximately 40 million people directly and indirectly affected by this. Almost half the population. The politician who develops policy by considering these, is a smart and conscious politician. The Saadet Party has always proven that it is in this consciousness and mind. From now on, when given the opportunity, it will show that it stands by the disabled community with this consciousness and understanding.”
