Dozens of people have rushed to receive free potatoes distributed upon the orders of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the Kurdish majority southeastern province of Diyarbakır, showing how people are in need of basic food.

Residents of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district were seen reaching out to a truck distributing the free vegetable on April 18. They were seen to be ignoring COVID-19.

The Agriculture and Forestry Ministry, upon the orders of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has recently purchased potatoes and onions from farmers who couldn't sell their produce and started to distribute them to those in need.

Social media users slammed the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for causing poverty in the country following repeated images of people desperately trying to obtain free potatoes.

A similar incident took place on April 17 in the Eyyübiye district of the southeastern province of Urfa, where a stampede took place when people tried to get a sack of the free vegetable.
