Saadet Party Konya Deputy Abdulkadir Karaduman said, “The pollution of clean water that will be used by 200,000 people is a disaster. Citizens and non-governmental organizations in the vicinity are reacting to the disaster that will be caused by the gold mine to be opened in Atikhisar.”
Saadet Party Konya Deputy and Head of Youth Branch Abdulkadir Karaduman brought the continuation of the business to the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), despite the court's "cancellation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) positive decision" against Koza Gold Enterprises in Çanakkale. Karaduman, who submitted a question to the Presidency of the Turkish Grand National Assembly with the request of the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, asked whether the enterprise had a working license.
“DID THE MINISTRY GIVE ANY LICENSE PERMISSION?”
Karaduman added, “Koza Altın Enterprises Corp.’s mine in the vicinity of Serçiler and Terziler Villages of Çanakkale center, threatens the Atikhisar Dam, Çanakkale's only source of drinking water and irrigation water. Pollution of clean water that will be used by 200,000 people is a disaster. Citizens and non-governmental organizations in the vicinity react to the disaster that will be caused by the gold mine to be opened in Atikhisar. It is curious whether a license has been given by your Ministry to the company that wants to operate in the region.”
“ON HOW MANY AREAS THE EIA REPORT IS PREPARED?”
Karaduman asked the following questions to the Minister of Energy Dönmez in his parliamentary question; “How many mining exploration/extraction permits and licenses have been issued in Çanakkale in the last 12 years? How many of these areas have an EIA Report been prepared for? What is the duration of these permits and licenses? How many of the mining sites that are licensed/permitted are active? Which are these mining sites and companies that have permission/license? Is there a mining license or permit given to Koza Gold Enterprises in Çanakkale by your Ministry? If yes, what is the duration and scope of the permit/license? Is there a relevant ongoing judicial process with the project and/or company in question? In the expert report that caused the cancellation before, it was stated that ‘water basins should be protected with the global drought due to climate change’. Despite this report, will new licenses and permits continue to be issued for the mining site in the aforementioned region?”
