The drug scourge that poisons our generations and destroys our future continues to be one of Turkey's biggest problems. While drug addiction deeply affects thousands of families, it is painful that the drug trade cannot be prevented. While the struggle against drugs, which should be seen as a war of liberation, was insufficient, scandalous images were witnessed in Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city. In the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, a queue for drug purchases formed in the middle of the street.

ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN AFTER SCANDAL IMAGES

While dozens of people shopping from drug dealers formed a long queue, the security forces took action after the scandalous images. In this direction, simultaneous operations were carried out at sixty different addresses by the Istanbul Provincial Police Department Anti-Narcotic Crimes teams. As a result of the operation, four people who were determined to be involved in drug trafficking were detained. A small amount of drugs were also seized during the searches.

MILLIONS OF OUR CITIZENS ARE AT RISK

There is no city in Turkey where drugs are not used and sold. It is possible to reach young people who have fallen into the swamp of drugs and poison dealers who sell drugs in every corner of 81 provinces. There are nearly 5 million users in our country, where approximately 2 million people are dependent. Our country, where 60 percent of the murders, 40 percent of the attacks and 33 percent of the rapes are carried out by people with alcohol and substance use, has been a bridge in the drug trade, where many drugs and stimulants have been manufactured in the last 20 years. Turkey was the second country with the most heroin seizures in 2019.
