In the current economic crisis environment, the purchasing power of citizens continues to decrease day by day. The research conducted by ‘EBS Consulting’ has revealed that citizens are in the 29th place out of 31 countries in the European Union average in terms of purchasing new vehicles. While every thousand people in Turkey can buy 7,34 new vehicles in 2020, this figure has decreased to 6,76 in 2021. In the ranking, Turkey was able to pass only Romania and Bulgaria.

“WE WANTED TO SHOW THE DECREASE IN THE PURCHASE POWER OF THE CITIZEN”

EBS Consulting General Manager, who evaluated the research made by EBS Consulting to our newspaper, Erol Şahin, underlining that the worsening economic conditions affect the purchasing power of citizens in every field, said, “Economic conditions took away the purchasing power of the citizens. In addition, with heavy automobile taxes, citizens cannot buy new cars. With our research, we wanted to show the decrease in the purchasing power of citizens.”

THE TWO COUNTRIES WE PASSED, CAN IMPORT SECOND HAND VEHICLES

Stating that there are 31 European countries in the table they prepared, Şahin stated that Turkey is in the 29th place in the list , “As can be seen in the table, there is no country we can pass through except Romania and Bulgaria. The two countries we mentioned are members of the European Union, and these two countries can also import second-hand vehicles apart from new vehicles. Despite this, the second-hand vehicles in these two countries are equivalent to our new vehicles," he added.

THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES PER THOUSAND PEOPLE DECREASED COMPARED TO THE LAST YEAR, THE RANK HAS NOT CHANGED

While there are data regarding the year 2020 in the research, Şahin indicates that Turkey is still in the last place in terms of ranking. He said, “As Turkey, when we look at the number of vehicles per thousand people in the purchase of new vehicles, it was 7,34 vehicles in 2020. In 2021, this figure decreased by 0,58 to 6,76. Even though our rate in the past seemed high, we were still in the last place as Turkey."

NEW VEHICLES AVERAGE IN EUROPE IS 22,5, IN TURKEY 6,76

Underlining that the number of new cars per thousand people is very low among European countries based on 2021, “We are in the 29th place in 31 countries. There are 6,76 vehicles for every thousand people. The European average is 22,5 units. In terms of car ownership, while there are 161 vehicles per thousand people in Turkey, 55 percent of them are aged 10 years or older,” he added.
