Early call for early elections

Early call for early elections
Date: 1.4.2024 10:00

The March 31 local elections ended in defeat for the government. The ruling wing lost a huge amount of votes across Türkiye. Factors such as mismanagement in the economy, wrong policies on the Gaza issue, and failure to provide necessary improvements to retirees have virtually destroyed the citizens' tolerance for the government.

Having lost many provinces and important districts, the ruling party lost its position as the leading party in the country for the first time.

According to yesterday's election results, the Republican People's Party retained its current chairmanships in metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya and Mersin.

It surpassed the Justice and Development Party and became the first party in the mayoral votes of many cities such as Bursa, Manisa, Giresun and Adıyaman.

AK PARTY FALLS BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME

Yesterday's election results reminded us of the 1989 municipal elections, when the then ruling party, ANAP, collapsed and left-wing parties gained significant momentum in local governments.

AK Party experienced such a clear decrease in votes for the first time in the elections it participated in since its establishment and lost its distinction as the leading party.

LOW-INCOME CITIZENS SHOWED THE YELLOW CARD TO THE GOVERNMENT

The government, which could not find a solution to the high cost of living that has been bothering citizens especially in the last two years, literally received a yellow card from low-income citizens.

Citizens, who encounter price tags with price hikes every day in the market, gave a very important message by punishing the government at the ballot box.
