After two earthquakes on February 6, in Kahramanmaraş, the education process was interrupted for a while. Students outside the disaster area started the lesson on February 20.
Training began on March 1 in three provinces in the earthquake zone. However, while the 27 March was marked for the resumption of education in Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş, Hatay and Malatya, which were heavily destroyed by the earthquakes, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization continues its studies regarding the schools in the earthquake regions.
THERE WERE OVER 3 MILLION STUDENTS, OVER 217,000 TRANSFERRED
While there were 3 million 600 thousand 891 students in total in the earthquake zones, some of the students were transferred to different provinces to get away from the earthquake zones.
According to the figures announced by the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, the transfer procedures of 217 thousand 246 students who requested transfer due to the earthquake were carried out.
While the number of students who have moved away from the region but have not yet requested transfer is not known, there is no exact information on the number of students staying in the earthquake zone.
EDUCATION IS TRIED TO BE CONTINUED WITH TENT AND CONTAINER CLASSES
While no data has been shared yet on the schools damaged or destroyed in the earthquake area, it was stated that the damage assessment studies carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization continue, and it was noted that training in tents, container schools and container classrooms for education in the region continues.
According to the data announced by Minister Özer, it was noted that education activities continue at 1,717 points in total at 396 kindergarten classes, 127 primary schools, 168 secondary schools, 277 high schools, 32 special education schools, 717 DYK points opened to support students preparing for LGS and YKS. .
It was also underlined that tent and container classes are being tried to be established so that the education process can begin.
TRANSPORT APPLICATION OF 1,080 TEACHERS REALIZED
No official data on the number of teachers applying to leave the earthquake zone was shared.
While the applications for the appointment were extended until March 17, it was announced that the appointments of 1,80% of the teachers who applied to be appointed to other provinces were carried out.
In Adıyaman, which is located in the earthquake zone, data on the number of existing teachers were not shared, while a paid teacher announcement was made for the need for teachers.
“THE PROCESS IS NOT FAST ENOUGH”
Making evaluations about the work carried out in earthquake areas, Hamdi Sürücü, Chairman of the Conscious Teachers Association, stated that the work carried out in the region was not fast enough and called for the teachers not to be forgotten.
"How many students can access education with the tent and container classrooms set up in the earthquake zone? How many students will these classes meet? Around 3 million students are currently waiting for education in the region, for this these questions need to be answered. Although there are good works done, the process does not progress at a pace that suits the needs. In addition, teachers should not be forgotten as well as students. How many teachers are there in the area? How many applied for transplant? These need to be known. The needs of earthquake survivor teachers should also be met, and the need for teachers to live in the region should be met," Sürücü said.
