The editor-in-chief of Turkish daily Yeni Akit, Kadir Demirel, was stabbed to death on Monday by his son-in-law, according to police sources.

Cemil Yavuz Karanfil, married to Demirel's daughter Esma, reportedly killed the newspaperman following a dispute between the two at the daughter's house in Istanbul's Basaksehir district, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Karanfil also wounded his wife when she tried to intervene in the dispute, said the sources. She was immediately taken to the hospital.
