A group of teachers went to the front of the school where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister Mahmut Özer attended the ceremony held for the opening of the academic year and requested a meeting. During the meeting, it’s claimed that Minister Özer used the words "Engineers cannot be appointed, but they don't cry like that" to the teachers' requests for appointment. While trying to express their grievances by reaching the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer yesterday, teachers who were victims of KPSS faced an unexpected reaction. After Minister Özer's alleged response to teachers' requests for staff, "Engineers can't be appointed either, but they don't cry like that," the teachers called for Minister Özer to resign.
IT WAS NOT SUITABLE FOR A MINISTER WHO REPRESENTS TEACHERS
Making a statement to the Milli Gazete on the subject, Chairman of the Conscious Teachers Association (ÖĞ-DER), Hamdi Sürücü, pointed out that the alleged words belittle teachers and said a minister's words stated that it was wrong. Sürücü said, “While the engineers, whom the Minister presented as an example, have many career doors, teachers do not have such a chance. This is not a word that befits the Minister of the Ministry of National Education (MEB). It doesn't suit a minister representing teachers.”
MINISTRY DENIED
While the Ministry of National Education published a written statement regarding the words that came to the agenda, it was pointed out that the issue that came to the agenda was a conversation between two teacher candidates and the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer. “It is seen that the content of a private conversation between our Minister and two teacher candidates yesterday was decontextualized and distorted on social media. Minister Özer listened to the opinions and suggestions of these teacher candidates regarding KPSS 2020, made the necessary explanations and did not use any offensive language. The allegations of a group that takes it as a duty to carry out black propaganda activities against our Ministry in various media from time to time, in the social media do not reflect the truth,” the statement said.
