Have you ever noticed?
During the twenty years of AKP rule, relations with NATO have never run normally. NATO bosses take a decision and use the method of persuading Turkey under AKP rule to accept it. Let's illustrate with a few examples:
In 2003, colonial coalition forces began to invade Iraq for no reason. They were supposed to use Incirlik Air Base in Turkey. This base was assigned to NATO. If Turkey did not allow it, NATO could not open it to the use of the USA. The AKP government was “persuaded” and its permission was obtained. From here, it was announced by the authorities that 4990 sorties were allowed for the destruction of Iraq.
They decided to appoint the Danish Anders Fogh Rasmussen as secretary general to NATO in 2009. The AKP government immediately raised its voice to object to this. “This man is an enemy of Islam, he protected those who made fun of our Prophet, and he also financed the PKK media in his country. Although they said that it is not possible for us to accept this as the general secretary, they soon accepted this. But he had two conditions. Rasmussen will apologize for this hostility, and Turkey will have a say in the top management of NATO. As these two conditions were not met, Rasmussen, who came to our country, behaved in a way that made fun of our people and our rulers. Thus, NATO bosses "convinced" the AKP government.
Regarding the NATO bosses who decided to illegally bombard Libya in 2011, the Turkish Prime Minister said, "What is NATO doing in Libya?" Although he made a statement, the famous method of "persuasion" must have been put into action, as we remember with ache that he took the decision and sent our navy "for the determination and registration that Libya belongs to the Libyans". We think it was decided by a similar method of persuasion that Turkey would provide suitcases of dollars to the opponents of the late Gaddafi.
We remember that the missile early warning facilities, which were decided to be built on our territory in 2012 by NATO bosses, were first "convinced" by the Turkish Prime Minister, with the statement "We do not have such a request", after a short while. Everyone, including the pro-media, later admitted that this system was established for the defense of Israel. Unfortunately, these facilities still continue to operate in Malatya Kürecik in favor of Israel.
In 2012, NATO bosses decided on the patriot battery systems to be deployed in order to block a possible missile attack on Israel due to Iran's Syrian civil war, on Turkish territory. When journalists asked the Turkish Prime Minister about this decision, he vehemently and furiously rejected it, explaining that Turkey did not make such a request. It soon became clear that he was "convinced", that these batteries were installed.
Although it has been determined and proven many times that both the PKK and other formations affiliated with this organization use NATO weapons against Turkey, there is no other possibility other than the thesis whether it is possible to not go on the subject as much as necessary with certain "persuasion" methods.
Despite the fact that all of our people jumped to their feet in the scandal where Atatürk and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan posters were placed on the target board in NATO military exercises held with live bullets in 2017, the AKP government could not give the necessary reaction to cover up the event with the dismissal of one or two personnel. It is not known what "persuasion" methods were used.
The green light lit by this government for the admission of Israel as an observer member to NATO was of course possible with certain "convincing" efforts.
Although the AKP government seemed to be determined to accept the Northern European countries into NATO at the Madrid summit last month, it did not stand behind the veto decision. The veto decision was lifted with dry promises. These countries, too, immediately made happy statements, saying, "We have overcome the Erdogan barrier." Of course, it is obvious that this is possible with "persuasion" methods.
These are examples that everyone knows. There are also decisions that are probably not possible for everyone to know.
It is seen that the AKP government takes hasty decisions without adequate consultations, and cannot stand behind these decisions as a result of the "persuasion" methods with the initiative of a single person. It is clear that it is a habit of NATO bosses to mislead or "convince" a single person.
Of course it doesn't go that way. It will be possible to sit down at the tables by calculating the interests of our country, by making consultations, by making decisions that can be stood behind, and by the coming to power of the governments that will do this.
God forbid, it is possible that NATO decisions will be taken tomorrow, which will have more dire consequences, and weaker governments will be persuaded. This is an extremely dangerous situation for the survival of our state.
