Turkey is preparing for the most different election in its history! While coalitions were formed after the elections in the previous system, alliances started to be formed before the elections with the new system.

The number of alliances, which was two in the previous election, is about to increase to 4 in the current situation. While the 4th alliance is not yet official, the number of alliances is expected to reach 5 or 6 by the end of the year. In Turkey, which will experience such a different election for the first time, comments are made about the ‘election of alliance’ for the upcoming elections.

MANY PARTIES BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT...

The number of alliances forced upon the parties by the Presidential Government System is increasing. With less than 10 months to go before the timely election, many parties, both right and left, have already contracted for an alliance.

The new system brought the election of alliances! With the Presidential Government System, which came into force in 2018, alliances were born. While in the previous system, cooperation between parties was made after the elections, with the new system, alliances started to be formed before the elections. While there were two alliances, the People's Alliance and the Nation Alliance, in the previous election, the number of alliances is expected to exceed 5 in the next election. With less than 10 months to go before the upcoming on time election, many parties, both right and left, have already contracted for an alliance.

ELECTION OF ALLIANCES

The number of alliances forced upon the parties by the Presidential Government System is increasing. While two alliances, the Nation and the Republic, went to the polls in the previous elections, the number of alliances is expected to exceed 5 in an snap or timely election. The establishment of many alliances before an election to be held led to the interpretation of "This election will be the election of alliances" regarding the elections.

ALLIANCES ARE DEFINED, PARTIES ARE NOT CLEAR

On the other hand, although the names of some alliances are known, it is still unclear which parties will take part or not. While Justice and Development Party (AKP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Grand Unity Party (BBP) are currently in the People's Alliance, it is not yet clear whether the Patriotic (Vatan) Party will take place in the People's Alliance. On the other hand, the parties that entered the previous elections under the umbrella of the Nation Alliance are currently in the 6 Tables. Republican People’s Party (CHP), Good (IYI) Party, Saadet Party and The Democratic Party had gone to the polls under the umbrella of the Nation Alliance in the previous elections. However, with the participation of Democracy and Progress (Deva) Party and Future (Gelecek) Party to these four parties, 6 Tables was formed. It remains to be curious whether the 6-table will go to the elections with one or more alliances.

IN A SHORT TIME, THERE WILL BE 4 ALLIANCES, 2 ON THE WAY

Apart from the People's and Nation's Alliance (Table of 6), the Revolution Movement, the Left Party, the Communist Party of Turkey and the Communist Movement of Turkey announced that they have formed the Socialist Power Union as the 3rd alliance. In addition, the Chairman of the Right (Doğru) Party, Rifat Serdaroğlu, said that they are continuing their alliance negotiations with the Victory (Zafer) Party, the Homeland (Memleket) Party and the National Road Party (MYP), and that they will announce their alliance under the name of the Turkey Alliance at the end of September. With this statement, it is understood that the number of alliances will be at least 4 in a short time. However, while it is learned that the number will not be limited to this, two more alliances are expected to be formed before the end of 2022.
