Turkey was shaken by earthquakes that occurred one after another in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş on Monday.

Adıyaman is among the cities that suffered the most damage in the earthquake that affected 10 provinces.

In Adıyaman, where the city center has almost disappeared, many provinces and districts, especially Gölbaşı, were left under the rubble. There are still great difficulties in transportation to rural areas.

The fact that the temperatures are below minus degrees directly affects the transportation and aid efforts in rural areas.

While Adıyaman was one of the provinces where the earthquake caused great destruction, according to the latest figures, nearly 500 thousand people were directly affected by the earthquake, including 312,000 of the city's population approaching 633 thousand in the center, 77 thousand people in Besni, 50 thousand people in Gölbaşı and 16 thousand in Sincik.

While the traces of the destruction in the city continued, the earthquake survivors we spoke to said, "They left Adıyaman to its fate".

ADIYAMAN'S CENTER IS NEARLY DISAPPEARED

While the effect of the severe earthquake in Adıyaman caused great destruction, many buildings in the city center were left under the rubble.

The entire city center, with no undamaged buildings, was almost destroyed.

An earthquake survivor awaiting the removal of his relatives in the debris in the central district, where search and rescue activities continue, said, "When we experienced the first earthquake, we quickly took to the streets. It was dark. At that moment, everyone rushed to the wreckage. We saved what we could save. However, we couldn't catch up. With the second earthquake, we were exhausted. Voices were coming from every building. We did our best. But we were all helpless, because so much help came here. They left Adıyaman to its fate in the earthquake."

FUNERALS ARE BURIED IN THE PEOPLE'S CEMETERY

Stating that the search and rescue efforts, which should be started in the first moments after the consecutive earthquakes, started on the third day of the earthquake, earthquake survivors stated that dozens of buildings were still not searched and their relatives under the rubble were not removed.

On the other hand, earthquake survivors claimed that the bodies removed from the collapsed rubble were lined up side by side and kept for a while. He stated that the hospital morgues in the district center were full and therefore the bodies were buried in the unclaimed cemetery without informing their relatives.

EPIDEMIC DISEASES CAN OCCUR

While the funerals in the city center were kept waiting for a while at the rubbles on the streets and avenues due to the insufficient capacity of the hospital, the lack of adequate cleaning equipment in the region invites epidemics. It is stated that epidemic diseases may occur due to the lack of adequate hygiene and cleanliness in the earthquake area, as well as the lack of infrastructure to meet the toilet needs of earthquake victims.

EMERGENCY TENT SHOULD BE SENT TO THE VILLAGES

As in all earthquake provinces, tents are the basic necessities in Adıyaman. Outside the city center, where the coldness drops to minus 15, the temperature drops to minus 25 at high points due to the harsh winter. It is stated that while the coldness reaching serious degrees affects human life, the tents sent to the region are insufficient. While tents are the first request of earthquake survivors in the calls coming to the disaster relief center, materials that protect against the cold such as heaters, winter coats, boots and sweaters are requested. In the countryside, there are reports that the situation is worse. While the disaster tents that have just started to be built in the city center are still not enough, almost no tents go to the villages.
