According to the statement made by the Felicity (Saadet) Party Youth Branch, debts exceeding 3 times the principal have emerged with the reflection of the increase in the Producer Price Index (PPI) on repayments. “It is not possible for millions of students to pay these debts after graduation. The students want the differences on the principal to be deleted,” the statement said.

Along with the rising Producer Price Index (PPI), the repayment amounts of student loans given by the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK) increased exorbitantly. A reaction to this situation came from the Saadet Party Youth Branch. In the statement made, it was pointed out that the students wanted the differences added on the principal to be deleted, and it was underlined that new graduates could not afford these debts. In the statement which according to Higher Education Institution (YÖK) data, it was stated that the majority of the students received credits, and it was stated that five out of every ten students enrolled in primary and secondary education received education credits and two out of every ten students received education scholarships.

In the statement, it was stated that debts increased with the increase in loan and scholarship amounts as of 2022, and it was reminded that these amounts were increased to 850 Turkish Liras (TL) for undergraduate students, 1,700 TL for graduate students, and 2,550 TL for doctoral students this year. Pointing out that the unemployment rate among university graduates is also high, the statement added, “The unemployment rate among university graduates in Turkey is higher than primary school graduates. In the meantime, the fact that 152,000 TL was demanded after reflecting the PPI difference from a student who was paid 41,000 TL during his education period drew a great reaction from people from all walks of life.”
