Justice and Development Party (AKP) and IYI (Good) Party held their weekly group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan harshly criticized the opposition at his party's group meeting, while IYI Party Chairwoman Meral Akşener came to power over the economy.
President Erdoğan once again said that the elections will be held on time, and called on the opposition to announce their candidates. Drawing attention to the opposition's desire for snap elections, Erdoğan said, “The parliamentary and presidential elections will be held roughly these days next year. We can say that the countdown for the 2023 elections has begun. Even though the opposition is still talking about snap elections, the election calendar is already progressing in its own way.” Erdoğan noted that the immunity of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) member Salihe Aydeniz, who punched the police, should be lifted immediately. Stating that the ‘student amnesty’ proposal will also be presented to the Parliament in the coming days, Erdoğan stated that an inflation difference will be given to employees and retirees in July, and comprehensive and relaxing steps will be taken at the beginning of the new year. Referring to the ongoing discussions on Turkish Airlines, Erdogan added, "Our national airline will make its international flights under the name of Türk Havayolları, not Turkish Airlines." Erdogan said: "We will never change our stance on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) issue until Sweden and Finland take clear, concrete and decisive steps in the fight against terrorism."
