Turkey’s president and his French counterpart spoke on the phone Saturday to discuss this week’s Sochi summit and the Syria crisis, according to a Turkish presidential source.

Turkey’s president and his French counterpart spoke on the phone Saturday to discuss this week’s Sochi summit and the Syria crisis, according to a Turkish presidential source.
 
Speaking to Emmanuel Macron, Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that no other terrorist groups should be allowed in areas of Syria cleared of Daesh, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
 
Erdogan also said Syria’s territorial integrity must be respected.
 
On last Wednesday’s summit in Sochi, Russia, Erdogan said fair elections under UN supervision are needed in Syria.
 
On Wednesday, Erdogan met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani in the Black Sea resort city to discuss Syria.
 
During the meeting, the three leaders agreed to gather a congress of Syrian groups to advance a political solution for the war-torn nation.
