Independent Vermont Senator Sanders, one of the important Jewish figures in the US Senate, was a guest on CNN's "State of the Union" program.
When asked about anti-Semitic rhetoric in demonstrations in support of Palestine in universities in the USA, Sanders emphasized that all kinds of hate crimes and anti-Islamism (Islamophobia) should be opposed along with anti-Semitism.
Regarding the presenter's insistent efforts to highlight the victimization of Jewish students at universities, Sanders stated that he was also Jewish and that the issue that should be focused on was the humanitarian disaster caused by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza.
Sanders stated that Israel is systematically trying to destroy the healthcare system in Gaza and essentially the entire Gaza.
"Most Americans are disgusted with Netanyahu's war machine and oppose US support for it," Sanders said.
"GAZA DISPLACED 80 PERCENT OF ITS PEOPLE"
He stated that Israel killed 5 percent of the Gaza population in 6.5 months, an unprecedented rate in the history of modern warfare, and said, "Netanyahu must be held accountable for this."
Sanders pointed out that the definition of genocide was made by the courts,
"However, it is indisputable that Netanyahu committed ethnic cleansing in Gaza. It displaced 80 percent of Gaza's population. Now he is threatening to attack Rafah, where people took shelter because it was safe. This is unacceptable," Sanders added.
