The European Union (EU), which has always talked about values such as justice, freedom and human rights, has once again declared its biased stance.

The European Union, which could not tolerate even the fact that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) became an observer member of the Organization of Turkish States, once again trampled on its values. Reacting harshly to the statement of the EU, which continues to be a shield against the Greeks, the President of the TRNC Ersin Tatar emphasized that the expectation from the EU is to take into account the sovereignty demand of the Turkish Cypriots and act accordingly.

“They give support and encouragement to the Greeks and keep them away from the solution”

In the statement, “the unfortunate statement, in which the understanding that the European Union has moved away from its own basic principles, continues to act contrary to these and persists in its biased position on Cyprus, is once again revealed, and that Southern Cyprus, which has been unfairly made a member of the EU, is encouraged by this. Unfortunately, it serves to use this membership as an element of threat and blackmail by taking power and to maintain his uncompromising attitude,” the statement said.

In the statement made by the TRNC Presidency, it was stated that the EU's biased attitude towards Cyprus, which moved away from its own basic principles, was once again revealed. In the statement, “the unfortunate statement that the understanding that the European Union has moved away from its own basic principles, continues to act against them and persistently maintains its biased stance on Cyprus is revealed once again, and the unfortunate statement that Southern Cyprus, which has been made a member of the EU, is encouraged by this. Unfortunately, it serves to use this membership as an element of threat and blackmail by taking power and to maintain its uncompromising attitude,” the statement added.

Emphasizing that the expectation from the EU is to consider the sovereignty demand of the Turkish Cypriots and act accordingly, it was noted that the Turkish side was punished by the EU even though the Turkish side mostly said "yes" to the referendum held within the framework of the Annan Plan.

“TRNC will continue its honorable fight”

In the statement, which was stated in the negotiations that the Turkish Cypriot side has been going on since 1968, together with Turkey to have a constructive attitude, the following views were included:

“We expect the EU to respect the will of the Turkish Cypriot people and the steps taken as a necessity of this policy. The aim of this outdated understanding, which cannot even accept the development of international relations, which is the most natural right of the Turkish Cypriot people, who are at least as sovereign and equal as the Greek Cypriots, is to isolate the Turkish Cypriots from the world in every sense, not to let them breathe, to intimidate them, and to patch them up to the Greek side under the guise of a federation. It is our greatest responsibility to future generations and our people to stand up to such an outdated and against universal human rights mentality. We would like to clearly emphasize that the new policy that we put forward together with our motherland Turkey, to which our people strongly support, and which aims to register our vested sovereign equality and equal international status, protects the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people in all circumstances and conditions, step by step raises the status of the TRNC. The TRNC, which is accepted as an observer member of Turkish States organization, will continue its honorable struggle with confident steps without slowing down.”

On the other hand, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also reacted to the EU by making a written statement.
