While the fertilizer profiteering revealed by the Milli Gazete aroused great public repercussions, it is revealed that the Presidency was also misled in the fertilizer profiteering.

Center for Presidential Communication (CIMER) used the natural gas crisis in Europe as an excuse at the exorbitant price of the fertilizer we imported from Asia!

Turkey imports fertilizer from Asia. CIMER used the natural gas crisis in Europe as an excuse for the exorbitant price of fertilizer!

While the fertilizer profiteering revealed by the Milli Gazete gives hope to the farmer, the state is expected to take action against it. However, it was remarkable that the Presidential Communication Center did not see the fertilizer profiteering and showed Europe as an example of exorbitant price increases. Turkey imports urea fertilizer from Oman, Egypt, Iran and Turkmenistan, Libya, Russia and Ukraine. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) data, fertilizer prices imported from these countries increased from 240 dollars to 500 dollars in the January-October period, while in Turkey, on the contrary, it increased from 2,600 Turkish Liras (TL) to 13,000 TL. In other words, while fertilizer prices increased by 1 unit in imported countries, this increase was reflected to the farmers in Turkey as 5 units.

CIMER'S AMAZING ANSWER TO THE FARMERS!

Although Turkey does not import fertilizers from Europe, in the response given by the Presidential Communication Center (CIMER) upon a farmer's complaint; the linking of exorbitant price increases in Turkey to developments in Europe was met with surprise. A farmer named Emir Can Şivka made an application to CIMER regarding the exorbitant price increases in fertilizer prices. The farmer's application was answered by the Plant Nutrition and Technology Development Department. In the answer given, the problems experienced in natural gas supply in Europe were cited as the reason for the high increases in fertilizer prices in Turkey.

TURKEY DOES NOT IMPORT FERTILIZER FROM EUROPE!

Plant Nutrition and Technology Development Department, in its reply, stated the following statements:

“Due to the negativities in natural gas supply in Europe, ammonia production facilities have been temporarily closed or reduced their capacities. Demands of nitrogen fertilizer produced from ammonia in European countries has increased the world nitrogen fertilizer prices. About 90 percent of the raw materials (ammonia, natural gas, phosphate rock, phosphoric acid) used in fertilizer production in our country are imported. Developments in global commodity markets cause an increase in domestic and international fertilizer prices. All kinds of measures are being implemented to protect and watch over our farmers in the face of increasing input costs.”

TURKEY IMPORTS FERTILIZER FROM ASIA, BUT EUROPE IS SHOWN AS AN EXAMPLE FOR EXORBITANT PRICE!

However, this answer given by the Plant Nutrition and Technology Development Department contradicts the data of TURKSTAT. Because while Turkey does not import almost any fertilizer from Europe, it imports almost all of its imports from Asian countries. According to TURKSTAT data, imported fertilizer prices from Asian countries did not increase significantly in the January-October period.
