While the economic crisis that started with the pandemic continues to increase, citizens continue their struggle against rising prices and falling purchasing power.

While the economic crisis affected the citizens both materially and spiritually, Expert Psychologist Servet Aşan stated that the crisis had effects on the psychology of the citizens.

Stating that the economic crisis directly affects the life of every citizen, Aşan stated that the wrong steps taken affect the citizens.

"The occurrence of many negative factors affecting this process, such as the repetition of wrong steps taken by the government, has made the process more chronic. Citizens are trying to take steps to protect their own lifestyle. Citizens are trying to manage this chronic process with intense anxiety. The ever-increasing prices have also triggered people's consumption frenzy. The thought of 'I may not be able to buy it later!' causes us to buy and stock many products today," Aşan said.

"CITIZENS ARE TRYING TO START THE PROCESS ACCORDING TO THEIR ECONOMIC STATUS"

Pointing out that economic crises cause individual and social problems, Aşan stated that socioeconomic conditions are especially effective on human psychology.

"Citizens determine a lifestyle depending on their economic situation and maintain their relations to this extent. However, if he is in a sense of economic inadequacy, his relationships and lifestyle begin to be negatively affected. Citizens are trying to get through the process by developing various strategies to deal with this situation. In this process, they may choose to reduce their social relationships, limit their activities and postpone their needs. If inadequacy in his basic needs begins to occur, this time he tries to manage the process in an insecure environment with anxiety. Here, together with the consumption frenzy, he continues to evaluate the wrong opportunities, to go his way and to despair," Aşan added.

"IT IS DANGEROUS FOR SOCIETY"

Underlining that the desperation that has arisen causes a change in the behavior of the citizen, Aşan underlined that the citizen has become more depressed.

"While the citizens begin to show depressive symptoms in the face of this situation, they also begin to decrease their tolerance level. Thus, he tries to lead an uneasy life for the society. In this context, anger problems and a decrease in the level of tolerance are now moving towards becoming a dangerous character for the society, as they negatively affect the relations and communication of the citizens," Aşan said.
